It's been awhile since I posted a song on my blog, and I thought this would be fitting for this morning.
I was driving to work, and this song started playing on my iPod. I'm a huge Christina Aguilera fan :) I've loved all of her albums. She's got an amazing voice, she's beautiful and talented.
And I also had the inspiration to write a kind of letter, even though it's short, to all the people who tried to bring me down.
Dear Bullies:
You thought you were better than me. You thought that I was no one. Or, in all reality, maybe you were just jealous of how awesome I was, so you had to bring me down to make yourself feel better.
Well, you know what? You haven't won. It's been a long, LONG battle to get to the point where I'm comfortable with who I am. You took that away from me for too many years. But you fuckers didn't win.
You didn't get the best of me, and you never will get the best of me. You know who does? My husband. My son. My successful career. My successful journey into weight loss and becoming who I was destined to be. My amazing family who supports every decision I make. My mad cooking skills. My cat. All of my friends. My true friends, not just the ones who are all, "Oh I have 500 friends because Facebook says so and you're one of them!" The people who have never judged me a day in their lives. THEY get the best of me.
Maybe you feel bad for what you've done. Maybe you don't. I really don't care. If you feel the need to apologize, I will likely ignore it, because it's been more than 10 years. Apologies can only take you so far. If you need something, don't come to me. If you need someone to talk to, I won't be here. Because you certainly will not get my sympathetic shoulder to cry on.
Now, to all you kids who are currently getting bullied:
DO NOT LET THEM GET TO YOU. It's not easy. Having to go to school every day, knowing that you are going to be tormented, and nothing will get done about it. Keep your head high. Ignore the nasty comments. It's only those assholes trying to make their terrible lives seem better. Keep your chin up, your ears closed, and walk on. It will end one day, this I promise you. And not by LIFE ending. The bullying will end. It will get better.
Don't let them get the best of you.
xoxo
Shan
