I started off with the carrots, since they were to take the longest (surprisingly longer than the chicken)! I peeled them and chopped them up, tossed them in olive oil, thyme, salt and pepper, and stuck them in the oven.
Next up, I got my oil in the pan to fry my chicken, and started heating that up.
Next on the plate was getting the potatoes peeled. Andrew decided he was going to pitch in and help out, so he wanted to learn how to peel potatoes! We got the peeler out, and I showed him how. Well, two strokes into peeling his first potato, his pinky got in the way. So, here I have a wounded soldier (and I'm now down a chef). We got him all bandaged up. I think some of my neighbours may have thought I was murdering him, because he was screaming so loud! He went off to play his DS and rest his finger, and I continued on without him.
I got the potatoes peeled and on the stove. Next was getting the chicken ready to put in the hot oil, which didn't take any time at all, really. It was surprisingly easy!
I timed everything perfectly, because everything came off the stove/out of the oven at pretty much the exact same time! I served up our plates... And away we went!

Roasted carrots, mashed potatoes, and fried chicken. |
After supper was all done, Andrew decided he needed something sweet. So we tried Baked Apples, which weren't as good as I thought they were going to be... But with a little bit of Baskin Robin's Hokey Pokey ice cream, they were almost as good as apple crisp (of course, without the crisp)!
All in all, a wonderful first attempt at using my new cook book! :)
Tomorrow, I'm making Sour Cream Cherry Pie!!! So look for that!
