On Friday night, after Chris and I decided that we were going to do this, become "parents" again, we made the announcement to Andrew at the supper table. The exchange went something like this:
S: "Guess what?"
A: "What?"
S: "I'm going to be a mommy again!"
A: "You're having a baby?"
S: "No, we're adopting a baby!"
S: "No, we're adopting a baby!"
A: *crosses arms* "The baby is NOT sleeping with me! He'll keep me up all night!"
S: "You don't want the baby to sleep with you?"
A: "NO!"
S: "But the baby will be so cuddly, and fuzzy, and sweet!"
A: "I do not want the baby sleeping with me."
S: "Okay, that's fine. The baby can sleep with me."
A: "Are we seriously adopting a baby?"
S: "Yes, we are really adopting a baby."
A: *looks really sad* "Oh."
A: *looks really sad* "Oh."
S: "I can't keep this up any longer. We are adopting a baby. A baby kitten!"
A: "We're getting a cat?"
S: "Yes!"
A: *huge smiles*
Oh, I love fucking with my son. It's so fun. I mean, now I know how he would REALLY feel if we did have another baby (not that it's ever going to happen). He's always maintained that he would like a baby sister (not a brother). But I'm pretty certain now he would not be very happy if he were to get a brother or sister at this stage in his life. Can you imagine? He's so used to being an only child, and to go from that, to having to share EVERYTHING. I don't know that he'd handle it very well.
Anyway, we adopted a kitten. She's 14 weeks old, and beautiful, and perfect, and wonderful in every single way. Her name is Creamsicle. What a name, hey? And she is the definition of perfection. I just cannot believe how well she's adapted to our family already. It's like, the minute we got home and opened her kennel, it was home.
I love Creamsicle! And creamsicles!
