I went to the doctor today. I had some blood work back a couple weeks ago. I've been really jittery, losing hair, tired all the time, so I thought I better get it checked out. Don't have hypothyroid. Don't have diabetes or hypoglycemia or anything like that. Now I had to get more tests done. My doctor thinks I have something called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS).
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common female endocrine disorders affecting approximately 5%-10% of women of reproductive age (12–45 years old) and is thought to be one of the leading causes of female infertility. The principal features are obesity, anovulation (resulting in irregular menstruation) or amenorrhea, acne, and excessive amounts or effects of androgenic (masculinizing) hormones. The symptoms and severity of the syndrome vary greatly among women. While the causes are unknown, insulin resistance, diabetes, and obesity are all strongly correlated with PCOS.
Sounds great, hey? My mom has it. It's not hereditary, but it runs in the bloodline, from what I understand. Which doesn't make sense to me. Isn't "running in the bloodline" like saying it's hereditary? I could be wrong, but, who knows. Anyway. If that's what I have, it will suck. So long more children. Well, it's not impossible to get pregnant, but there is no set time for ovulating, so it's a lot harder.
Anyway, enough of the happy news! I'm off to get Andrew from school! I will try to blog more, but I am not going to promise anything. Not that anyone reads this - I am the only one following me!
